Carroll Erlandson
My artistic development was based on two years study at Ringling School of Art, Sarasota Florida, and one year at UW-Stevens Point; also on study of old and modern masters at museums throughout England, Europe and North America.
I have studied and attempted most styles of painting in order to understand the progression of western art. Presently, I do both figurative and abstract painting, attempting to learn from both methods and to eventually fuse an esthetic style. My primary interest is to develop the esthetic value of a painting rather than to convey any sociopolitical meaning; however, the latter does happen on occasion.
My primary medium is oil on canvas or wood panel, with sizes ranging from 9x12 inches to 48x96 inches. The most common size is in the range of 24x30 inches.
To assure prospective collectors, all works on canvas have been prepared by isolating the oil paint from the canvas with rabbit skin glue and oil primer; works on wood panel have been prepared with gesso primer on the panel. Any works on paper have been prepared with a gesso primer to isolate the oil from the paper. Sizes are in inches and may vary somewhat from actual.
